Any ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is considered a Patriot.
Trumbull-Porter Daughters are descended from many different kinds of Patriots. Below is a list of some of them. In it you will see colonels and privates, as well as one captain who issued commissary and did his fighting on the “home front,” and others who performed a patriotic service or a civil service. Not every Patriot was a man in the Continental Army; indeed, not every Patriot was a man! One Trumbull-Porter Daughter has succeeded in documenting her line to a female Patriot. That is simply because the documentation on women from the 1700s is so incomplete and not because we had no female “Patriot Ancestors.” We’re working on documenting more!
